Top Remedies for Menopausal Symptoms – Exhaustion and Weight Gain by Dr. Sandy Musclow, ND, MAc, MSc

Menopause may be considered a life transition where the astral body becomes ‘more free’, and the etheric body begins to show signs of changing vitality. This can cause a lot of changes in the woman’s body and be cause for more anxiety. When the astral body is more free, more of the emotion of the astral body may start to show up in daily life as emotions.  These changes are happening very gradually over a decade and can appear differently as per our constitution. This is why it is so difficult to know what to do at this time facing these symptoms. It may be a helpful start to consider constitution.

The Nerve-Sense (NS) woman is often prone to overwork, and has a ectomorphic or athletic build. They can tend to be ‘Type A’ or feel overwhelmed and not ask for help or not show they are struggling. They have lots of will and work beyond what is possible and tend to burnout.

An idea to support this woman is to work on equilibrium, bringing in more time to pause and reflect. Can she consider some art or slow walks in nature and approach her day not feeling hurried all the time? Can she consider 1-2 nights a week where she does nothing extra but have some me-time. Sometimes she needs ‘permission’ or a reminder from someone else to consider herself too (in addition to all those she manages).

Remedies may include Uriel Scorodite Prunus (PRG page 179) and/or Uriel Meteoric Iron Prunus (PRG page 146) 10 pellets 3-4x daily to support exhaustion and low mood. Uriel Plumbum Mellitum 14X (PRG page 160) may also support forgetfulness and memory in this time.

The Metabolic-Sense (MS) woman often notices weight gain and a slowed down metabolism. They may have a large family or a family focus and now starting to have an empty nest. She may be accustomed to cooking and doing much for the family and hasn’t had opportunity to consider what she may want to do with the perimenopausal change and freedom. She may feel lonely or unsure of what lies ahead.

To support this woman it may help to give her more information, information on dietary support if there is confusion about what is right for her in all the information available online. It may be helpful to consider a mind-map of various possibilities to consider with change of life (new job ideas, creative ideas, taking up an activity, a course in something of interest). Basic metabolic rate can drop by 1/3 during perimenopause, so having a discussion of nutrient dense foods may support as well.

Bitters can help to bring the astral body and Ego back into the metabolism. Uriel Chicory Ginger Bitters (PRG page 94) can be used before meals 1/4 teaspoonful mixed with water and during food/sugar cravings. Uriel Fragaria Vitis (PRG page 117) can support the liver and constipation at 2-3 tabs before bed and 1-2 tabs on waking (can also support improved sleep), and Uriel Chelidonium Curcuma (PRG page 93) 10 drops TID before meals can also be helpful for a constipation as it supports the gallbladder, as well as metabolic-derived headaches.
